Dal fry is a simple lentil dish prepared with lentils and spices. Enjoy as a side dish with Rice/ Rotis/ Bread.
INGREDIENTS
1 cup Tuvar dal/ Lentils
1 small onion
I small tomato
2-3 garlic
1/2 inch ginger
2 green chillies cut into 1/2 inch pieces.
1/2 cup coriander leaves
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp turmeric
3/4 tsp coriander powder
1/4 tsp Kashmiri chilli powder
2tsp oil.
Water
METHOD
Wash the lentils and soak in water for 10 mins.
Pressure cook the lentils with enough water, salt and turmeric.
Remove when done.
Heat oil in a wok.
Season with mustard and cumin seeds.
Add chopped onions, tomatoes, green chillies, ginger and garlic.
Add coriander pd and chilli pd.
Add 1/4 cup coriander leaves.
Fry for 2-3 mins.
Add the boiled lentils.
Bring to a boil.
Garnish with coriander leaves.
Serve hot with rice/ roti/ bread.
VARIATIONS
Lentils can be boiled with vegetables like Lauki / gourds.
