Dal is one of the best-known sources of proteins. This recipe is made with three different types of lentils onions, tomatoes, fenugreek leaves and mild spices.
INGREDIENTS
1/4 cup Moong dal
2 tbsp Masoor dal
2 tbsp Urad dal
1 small piece ginger
3 Tomatoes roughly chopped
1/4 tspTurmeric
1/4 tsp Methi seeds
1 small piece cinnamon (optional)
1 tsp Jeera
1 small Onion finely chopped
Coriander leaves
Curry leaves
1/4 tsp chilly pd or to taste
2 Whole red chillies
1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
1/4 Kalonji / nigella seeds (optional)
METHOD
Wash and soak all the three dals together for 15 mins.
Chop tomatoes, onions and methi leaves.
Pressure cook dal with turmeric pd , roughly chopped tomatoes ,cinnamon ,chopped ginger and 2 cups of water for 3 - 5 whistles or till done.
Mash up the dal with a big spoon.
Adjust the consistency by adding some more water if required.
In a small pan saute methi leaves with little oil and add to the dal along with salt.
For tempering in the same pan heat oil add mustard seeds, methi seeds, jeera seeds, red chillies, curry leaves, kalonji and finely chopped onions.
Fry well till the onions turn brown add chilly pd and season the dal with this.
Garnish with corriander leaves
