Misal is a spicy curry prepared with mixed dried beans topped with farsan or sev and served with bhakri or paav. It is easy to make and has a good nutritional value.
Serves: 4
INGREDIENTS
I cup mixed grains ( Misal) soaked over night,
1 med onion chopped
1 small tomato chopped
11/2 tsp ginger garlic paste.
1tsp coriander powder
1 tsp Misal powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp salt or to taste.
1/2 cup chopped coriander leaves
3-4 curry leaves.
1/4 tsp mustard seeds.
2 tbsp oil.
1/2 cup misal farsan for garnish.
METHOD
Pressure cook soaked grains with salt and turmeric pd.
Chop onions and tomatoes.
Heat oil in a wok, add mustard seeds and curry leaves,
Add onions, fry till golden.
Add the ginger garlic paste and tomatoes
Add coriander pd, turmeric pd, misal pd and salt.
Add 1/2 the chopped coriander leaves.
Fry till oil separates.
Add 2 tbs of the boiled misal, mash slightly till infused in the masala paste.
Fry for 2 mins then add rest of the misal and cook for 5 mins.
Remove from fire.
Garnish with coriander and farsan.
Serve with Bhakri / Paav.
BHAKRI
1 cup Bhakri flour ( Millet)
1/2 cup hot water
A pinch of salt.
METHOD.
Knead the flour with salt and hot water.
Pat and shape into 5-6 inch rounds.
Roast on a griddle. Till done.
NOTE: Incase bhakris are difficult to form, you can add 1/2 cup wheat flour. And then make Bhakris.
